Jill's Ham & Cabbage Soup

1 ham bone with lots of meat, usually from a picnic ham or just the meat. Best if it is a salty ham.
1 onion, chopped
4 celery stalks, chopped
5 medium potatoes, chopped, can use red potatoes
Salt and pepper to taste
Garlic salt, optional
1 head of cabbage, chopped

Cover the ham with water and bring to a boil. reduce to medium heat for a low boil and cook until the meat is tender and falls off bone (approximately three hours). Remove bone and plain. Add all ingredients, except the cabbage, and cook for one half hour. Add the cabbage cook for an additional 10 minutes.

  • This was a great find. The flavor was sooo tasty.The I made this in the Dutch Oven cooked with coals. I will make this for our next club gathering.
