Margaret's Gingerbread

 

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 cup molasses (light or dark) \r\nGrandma's Robust flavor is good
2 Tbsp. vinegar (white)
5 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp.cloves

Cream butter and sugar: add salt, egg, molasses and vinegar. Mix flour, soda, ginger, cinnamon and cloves together. Add to creamed mixture. Chill for at least 3 hours (the dough needs to be cold because it's a sticky dough — work a little flour in the dough if it sticks). Roll out and bake at 375° F for 6 minutes.

Helpful hint: Brush the backs of the cookie in melted white chocolate.
