Corn Bread


1 c. sifted flour
1/4 c. sugar
1 Tbsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1 c. yellow cornmeal
1 egg, well beaten
1 c. milk
5 Tbsp. shortening melted and cooled

Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Then mix in cornmeal. In a separate bowl, blend egg, milk and shortening. Add to dry ingredients and beat until smooth. Use greased (bottom only) 8" x 8" x 2" pan. Bake 400° F for 20 minutes.
