Melissa's Quick Sauerbraten

Submitted by Melissa

2 large onions
1/2 stick of butter
7-8 cube steaks
1 pkg. onion soup mix
1 c. of vinegar
1/2 c. water

Slice onions into rings and sauté in butter until soft. Brown cube steaks on both sides. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for 30 minutes or until sauce thickens slightly. Serve with homemade mashed potatoes or dumplings and enjoy. You get the same great taste without marinating for days.

  • Yeah.....NO!

  • This doesn't even come close to real sauerbraten.

  • Missing Ingredients!

  • In order for this to be any kind of saurbraten quick or not, it needs ginger, and pickling spices, lemon and bay leaf! The vinegar should be apple cider as well...I have an excellent short version and all the right ingredients are there. Without them its just beef!

  • A great blend of sour and sweet flavors

  • Serve with dumplings or mashed, garlic-roasted potatoes.
