Think of your front porch as your “stand-in” from the time your guests ring the doorbell to the time you can swing open the door and invite them inside, your front porch sets the welcoming tone for your visitors.

Dress up your door. If you only think about decorating your front door during the holidays, think again. Every season can be inspiration. Add a wreath or floral swag of vibrant summer blooms.

Frame your welcome. Flank both sides of your front door with tall planters filled with flowers of varying heights—don’t forget ones that spill over the side too! Change out your welcome mat with one that speaks to the season – think brighter colors or a field of poppies.

Add a pop of personality. A whimsical touch keeps things charming. Try hanging hurricane lanterns in luscious tangerine orange or earthy sage green. Or, plant fragrant herbs in polka-dotted teacup flowerpots.

Have a seat. There’s nothing like a gliding bench to evoke the charm of yesteryear and encourage guests to linger. Don’t be surprised if it becomes your favorite spot to wait for guests to arrive, or take in an evening sunset.

Think little. Your front porch is probably not that big of an area, so little accents can make a big impact. Toss colorful outdoor pillows on that gliding bench or rocking chair. Place a catch-all basket nearby to collect outside necessities, like a dog leash or garden gloves.

Surprise the senses. Delight the senses of your arriving guests. Fill candle lanterns with flameless candles or position a friendly dog statue on steps or at the base of a planter. Strategically place a wind chime where a gentle breeze will bring music to their ears.
