Home Decorating Tips:

  • Decorating small spaces can be a challenge, if you have a small bedroom give the bed a sense of presence with extra‐tall decorative wall accents as the headboard to take advantage of unused vertical space and draw the eye upward.
  • Use wall‐mounted sconces or shelves on your bedroom walls to frees up floor space and create the impression of a bigger room.
  • To achieve the most spacious feeling in a room, paint the ceiling white. Choose an accent color for a cozier feel.
  • The bedroom is not just about a bed and bedside table, add a sitting area to a corner and make it your own personal retreat.
  • Make a small window look bigger by surrounding it with gathered tiebacks or flowing curtains that hang outside the frame. Raise the apparent height of a ceiling by mounting your curtain rod above the top of the window frame.
  • A soothing fragrance sets the mood for the room— fill a decorative bowl with potpourri or place scented candles on your bedside tables.

  1. I am looking for decorating ideas for my small bedroom with the use of maybe strings of little white lights and greenery and Iove pink. I have been diagnosed with a back disease where I am going to be in bed, maybe the rest of my life and I want my bedroom to be my sanctuary with beauty to keep the darkness out of how I feel inside. I have little money to work with, so any suggestions on how to do things less expensive. I want to also say that Country Door is wonderful and their customer service is fantastic and their products that I have bought are lovely, very well made and exquisite. But any suggestions anyone would give me would be much appreciate. Thank you.

    1. Hi Amy,
Sorry to hear of your condition… I too have a small bedroom that I have been trying to decorate in a shabby chic style. The walls are a light pink, I have accented with a white bedspread and end tables. I have ordered a few of the white distressed shelves from Country Door along with big silver mirrors that my friend gave to me. I bought a couple of light green lamps from the local thrift store and added lampshades that are white and light green “fleur de leur” (SP?) style. I spray painted an old birdcage white, along with handled mason jars. I have some old antique ceramic green pig figurines that I incorporated along with light green and cream pillows for the bed. I picked up some green, purple and cream artificial flowers from the local discount store. I threw a dark stained low profile antique rocker in the room as well. It’s coming together, now I just need a headboard and end bench for the bed. I’m thinking gray.
These are some ideas that I implemented and really like the room so far, hopefully you will find inspiration and really enjoy your room too. Best of luck!!!

  2. Taking advantage of the vertical space when decorating is really helpful. Like you mentioned, if the decor is tall it will help make the room feel taller. It may also help to make the room look bigger if you use tall mirrors as the decor element.

    1. Thanks for sharing, Kendall!
