Smart and Budget Friendly Strategies to Update Your Home Decor
Often times, we aren’t really looking for a big room makeover, but we could definitely use a tip or trick that adds a little something new to your room. From adding a fresh color to one room’s palette to giving a touch of romance to your canopy bed to giving new life to mismatched towels, we offer up a few tips that will give you inspiration for that little something new.
Decorate with Green
There are endless possibilities to include green in your home décor. Green’s complexity has a natural appeal that spans a variety of moods and personalities. Whether verdant and tropical or tranquil and calming, greens can create a restorative, restful atmosphere in any room.
Canopy Bed Accents
Make your canopy bed a vision of romance with soft voile. Most local fabric stores carry this kind of light, blousy fabric. You’ll need about 20 yards. Hang it in loose swags around the posts and canopy of the bed, letting the ends drape to the floor. Hem the edges to keep them from unraveling.
Floral Place Settings
For centuries, flowers have added a special touch to table settings. Take it one step further — Victorian-style. Tuck a sprig of baby’s breath or a small carnation into each napkin ring and place a small bouquet above each plate. In the blank spaces of the table, scatter a few more flowers. If the evening calls for a touch of romance, place red roses (or even scattered petals) on white linens. The effect is a stunning place setting!
Solving Mismatched Towels
There’s no reason to throw away perfectly usable towels just because they don’t match. Instead, coordinate your mismatched, solid-colored towels by stitching washable, decorative ribbon along the flat-weave trim that’s woven into most towels.
Create a Conversation Nook
Transform a formal room into a cozy place to gather by creating a conversation nook. With just a couple of comfortable chairs placed in close proximity and an area rug or table to anchor them, you’re ready for warm conversation and welcome relaxation.
