Reading Nook Decor Ideas

How to Make a Reading Nook

Grab a good book and head for your favorite corner — it’s time to create your favorite reading nook!

Start With Your Seating

Everything comes to a screeching halt if you don’t have a thoroughly comfortable  place to sink into. Pick an oversized chair or small sofa that instantly feels good. Be careful of picking a seat that needs some “wearing in”; it just won’t happen.

Shed Some Light

Add the right touches of light to set the mood and add ambiance. Be sure to mix in a task lamp that will provide the light you will need so that you can read, knit or write.

Add a Side

A side table, that is. Rather than juggling a stack of catalogs, a cup of tea and your cell phone, place a nice-sized side table nearby to keep everything at arm’s reach.

Add the Finishing Touches

It can be a challenge to carve out a corner in your home just for yourself, but now that you have, make it yours with a special set of candles, a delicate vase or a figurine.

Define Your Space

You don’t need a ready-built niche to stake your claim. It’s okay to define your nook’s area even though it may be part of a bigger room. An area rug can help set it apart, as can a distinct color palette all its own.

Location. Location. Location.

Of course, a window with a view might be one of the first things you look for as you go in search of your perfect reading nook. If you can’t find a space with a window, try adding a lovely framed mirror nearby to give the illusion of openness.
